**LYRICS/ PAROLES **

Lentement
On se dépasse
On s’abandonne au temps qui passe
Lentement, lentement

On dirait qu’a notre âge nos rêves s’effondrent

Je ne veux pas te perdre
Je sais qu’il faudra tout changer
Changer

**ABOUT THE SONG / À PROPOSE DE LA CHANSON **

Nouvelle vague is about change.

As immigrants, the subject of change has been on the top of our minds for quite some time now. Not unlike the shift in paradigm brought forth by covid, we had to go through a very similar process when we moved to Canada: we had to adapt to a whole new way of life, a new set of rules and a new culture far from the comfort of what we know. Writing Nouvelle vague, we drew on our experience of overcoming this fear of change. We learned that only through the power of community and shared experience can we elevate ourselves and our society.

With the advent of the covid-19 pandemic, we find ourselves forced to make radical changes to our way of life and struggle daily to maintain a fragile equilibrium. We are all in a slow-moving awakening - with the wheel turning more slowly and our comforting habits gone. We find ourselves looking inwards, sometimes feeling like we don’t know who we are anymore or where we are heading. We are increasingly aware that we are all going through this together as a global community, and paying more attention to the experiences of others around us. This process is full of opportunity and hope, but it also brings its share of doubt and confusion. We are naturally afraid of change but we can use this fear to come out of this phase stronger and more resilient. Together, we can form a new wave of change. We feel it happening already. It’s coming.

Musically, the song is very inspired by French electronic music from the 80s and 90s, particularly the music of Indochine and Air. It also melodically draws from our own middle-eastern musical heritage with violin lines and arrangement ideas that can be found in the works of artists such as Elias Rahbani.
